It was set in 1959 at the fictional elite conservative Vermont boarding school Welton Academy.
In the autumn of 1959, Neil Perry entered the high school of Welton Academy in America. His father, Mr. Perry knows that Welton Academy is the best school who has four pillars for the students, tradition, honor, discipline and excellence. Mr. Perry wants Neil to become a doctor, so he should study hard to be a doctor. Actually, Neil do not want to be a doctor, he loves acting very much but if his father know about that, he could not allowed to be an actor, so he secretly join the acting class. Besides of his desire to be an actor, he cannot ignore his father to always focus on study hard about exacts subject and he always follow of what his father wants although he do not want to be a doctor. Luckily, Neil can understand well about some subjects like physic, chemistry, mathematics and biology to enter for the next major, doctor. When the spare times come, he always used the time to discuss together with his friends about the lessons what they have studied, so they can understand well.

At that time, a new English teacher comes, Mr. Keating who loves literature and made poetry. He made the joyful class and not bored as usual. Every teacher in Welton Academy is become so monotonous when they are taught, but it is different with Mr. Keating. Sometimes, he taught outside the classroom. He applied the-free-thinking for his students especially about write some poetry “ No matter what anybody tells you, words and ideas can change the world”.

It makes Neil to open his mind and ask to Mr. Keating about his hobby. “I like to make a film and acting but why it so hard to tell to my father? He always pushes me to be a doctor”. In last story, Neil secretly do the acting and become a leader of the acting event and only get support from his friends and Mr. Keating. Neil father is planning the rest of his life but he never asked about what Neil`s want.  Suddenly his father found him in the theater and directly yelled at him to go home. Neil was so upset at that time. At the end of the story Neil died by himself because his father never respects him. Being parents should not push the children what they are want. Sometimes parents should need to ask about what the children want, so parents can develop the children ability.
